CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (Wednesday, March 1, 2023) – The PG Cares Foundation announced the return of their Grow the Game Celebrity Softball Game to PG Cares Field at Veterans Memorial Stadium on Saturday, July 29, 2023. The star-studded lineup will be released May 1.

The 2nd Annual Grow the Game Celebrity Softball Game will be held on Saturday, July 29 at 7 PM at the home of the Cedar Rapids Kernels, followed by a fireworks show. Gates will open at 6 PM. Tickets will be available starting today, March 20, through the Kernels Box Office.

Prior to the game, PG Cares will once again hold its free Grow the Game Youth Baseball/Softball camp for over 500 local children ages 12 and under from 10 AM-2 PM right on PG Cares Field. This year, PG Cares is excited to include a youth home run derby, with the finalists competing for the championship prior to the celebrity game. All children will receive a free ticket to attend the softball game later that evening. Camp registration details will be announced later this spring on their website.

“The Cedar Rapids Kernels are thrilled to have the opportunity to host this incredible event,” said Cedar Rapids Kernels CEO Doug Nelson. “We appreciate all of PG Cares’ efforts to bring back the Celebrity Softball Game.”

“We are so excited to bring back our Celebrity Softball Game and VIP Sponsor cocktail reception,” said Executive Director and Board Chair Jennifer Ford. “This year’s event will have an amazing roster of talented celebrities right here in Eastern Iowa.”

All proceeds from the game will benefit the PG Cares Foundation’s Grow the Game Fund, which aims to remove barriers that stand between children from underserved communities, including those in Iowa, and their chance to fall in love with the sports of baseball and softball.
